Jessie & Rob's Newborn Session Experience

Last Sunday, Meg & I left Coudersport to make a trip all the way up to Buffalo NY for an AMAZING newborn session! No shoot is too far for Walck Portraits ;)

The drive was nice - a little chilly when I packed the car (one degree Fahrenheit), but it was a beautiful sunny Sunday. I didn't know what kind of lighting scenario I'd be getting into, so I just brought the big kit - big lights & soft boxes, small flashes, reflectors - any & everything I could need. When we got there, it turned out that they had a beautiful north facing window and neutral skin toned wall in their dining room! The entire session I was able to just use natural light & giant reflector, and I love the results!

Jessie & Rob did amazing in front of the camera! We know from experience that new parents are usually sleep deprived, sore from using new muscles to pick up and care their new family member, and generally not in any mood to have their picture taken - but not this couple. They were like super humans! I couldn't ask for a better photo shoot :)

Liz Valentine's Headshot Session

As always, we had a blast with Liz! Her fun, happy, energetic personality is SO contagious! Liz is the owner/operator of Studio V Media & Photography in Port Allegany, and we often work together, weather we are taking pictures for each other's families, talking "shop", or just hanging out for some fun. For this shoot, Liz has just become the proud new owner of a Cannon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens. If you don't know what that means - it is a REALLY BIG LENS that EVERY photographer wants, and once they have it... it becomes part of their family. Its generally one of the most favorited pieces of glass ever created - so, yes, it is worth getting a photo shoot for yourself to celebrate the occasion!

Photography Often, we are asked how we make our photography business thrive when there are so many competitors out there, especially in a rural and isolated location like ours. Sure, there are mom-togs, those who do it for a hobby, those who undercut our prices, those that far out price us, those that offer downloads, free prints, etc., etc. After all, in a boutique business like ours, people are going to either love our work or hate it. They're either going to come to us or go somewhere else. That's okay. We're here to help those people that love our style, our personalities, and our art. Sometimes what we offer doesn't fit the customer's choice. That is okay. Hopefully we can help them out in some other way. Black and White - Conversion VS Infrared, See the Difference.

Digital Black and white photography can be created through many techniques. You could use the Instagram app and click a pre-made filter, use a more advanced software program like Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop, convert it directly inside your camera body, screw on an infrared filter to the front of your lens and convert it to black and white post production, or convert a camera to only capture infrared light. Today I'm just going to explore my two favorite methods: 1) Using an infrared converted camera. 2) Converting images in Adobe Lightroom. So what is the difference between the two methods? A color image that is converted to black and white allows you lots of control over each color channel. This is handy if you want to make different colors stand out by being brightened or darkened in your final black and white image.
